White Fillings
To replace or use instead of metal fillings to give a more natural smile. White fillings because they are slightly weaker than metal filling cannot be used for large cavities. For an alternative treatment, see notes on Inlays. Inlays An inlay is a special filling made from either gold, porcelain or high tensile plastic which is cast in a laboratory to the exact shape of the cavity and then glued into place. Due to their superior strength, inlays are generally placed in the back teeth when a cavity is too large to use the weaker metal or white filling materials. For a more aesthetic appearance. plastic or porcelain is coloured to match the surrounding teeth so making it hardly distinguishable once in place. Alternatively, inlays are used when a patient's biting power is so strong it curses normal fillings to repeatedly fracture or fall out. Fissure Sealants
